Jun 08, 2023 (newstodate): The new Cool Hotel has now been commissioned at Norway's Oslo Airport with an event on June 6, 2023.
From now, all seafood shipments from Oslo Airport can be stored in temperature-controlled environments either at GPC, OSCC, or at the new Cool Hotel, securing year-round unbroken cool chain logistics for Norway's seafood exports at Oslo Airport.
A contract was signed on March 9, 2022, between Avinor and Oslo Seafood & Cargo Centre AS for construction of the Cool Hotel, allocating space for OSCC to start construction of the facility that will drastically reduce the need for icing of seafood shipments, which is especially crucial during warmer summer seasons.
The 4,200 m2 facility with a capacity of storing up to 90 pallets per hour will be operated on a neutral basis to allow utilization by all exporters in the country's important seafood industry.
In 2022, Norway's seafood exports shipped out of Oslo Airport reached 220,000 tonnes - still a fragment of the country's total seafood export volume at 2.9 mio tonnes.
Flown cargo was however down in 2022 by 11 percent, y-o-y, to 123,651 tonnes.
With 116,691 tonnes, international flown cargo was the main segment, but also down by 10 percent, y-o-y, while international mail volumes presumably comprising smaller e-trade shipments increased by 93 percent to 902 tonnes.
