Jun 01, 2023 (newstodate): PostPlus BV, a JV between Estonia's Infinite Mile and the Dutch company Chain Global B.V, is developing the potentials of Helsinki Airport as an e-commerce hub.
Without own physical presence in Finland, PostPlus cooperates with ASR Cargo Center for handling and dispatch of the ex-China e-commerce shipments.
-Bringing B2C e-commerce shipments directly from 3rd countries by air to Finland's capital airport was long considered a difficult task for several reasons. First, there was no technology to ensure the e-commerce is processed and registered on a parcel level in the handling companies' cargo management systems. Hence, the interest on the part of cargo handlers to deal with e-commerce shipments was low. Secondly, storing bulky and space consuming shipments was also an issue for cargo handlers and nearby warehouse capacity providers, as clearing or preparing the shipments for transit was time-consuming. Thirdly, there was no customs clearance solution available to clear large e-commerce volumes in an automated and secure way, says Gunnar Aru, PostPlus CEO.
Using Estonian software Qstep, ASR Cargo Center now registers and releases the shipments on parcel level, and prior to that, a local broker company performs customs clearance using Estonian-developed Feeport IT's x7trade, software platform securing automated customs clearance of low-value e-commerce goods imported from the outside the EU.
Rounding off the chain of logistics, the Finnish transportation company Matkahuolto has been contracted to provide last-mile delivery to destinations in Finland.
ASR Cargo Center started handling of cargo at Helsinki Airport from February 26, 2018, serving a/o the Chinese airline Juneyao Airlines that maintained its traffic between Shanghai and Helsinki all through the Covid-19 period, now offering four weekly rotations since May 22, 2023.
And on top of this, Juneyao Airlines has also resumed flights from December 21, 2021, on its route between Zhengzhou and Helsinki launched on October 12, 2020, with one weekly rotation using Boeing 787-9 aircraft, but suspended during the Covid-19 heyday.
