Jun 05, 2023 (newstodate): Lithuania's GetJet Airlines has managed to safely ferry its Airbus A330-300 aircraft stranded at Lviv Airport out of the country.
On February 23, 2023, the aircraft in the fleet of GetJet Airlines' Maltese subsidiary was positioned at Lviv Airport on a lease contract with the Ukrainian carrier Windrose for all-cargo operations - but only the day after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
The aircraft remained stuck on ground but in airworthy condition, allowing for the covert evacuation flight on June 1, 2023, detected only after its transmitter was activated as it crossed the border to Poland.
After a temporary stop at Warsaw Airport, the aircraft is now in France to undergo maintenance and technical inspection.
Flights in Ukrainian airspace by commercial airlines requires special procedures after obtaining permits by the Ukrainian state and pertinent aviation institutions.
