Jun 12, 2023 (newstodate): Like many other airlines, Icelandair will be forced to lease external aircraft capacity in this summer's schedule.
In Icelandair's case, the cause is not, however, unforeseen large demands in the market for air transport; the reason is rather a shortage of own capacity due to an incident at Keflavik Airport involving two Icelandair aircraft as well as shortage of spares for maintenance due to the general pressure on the global supply chains.
Icelandair is thus operating aircraft on wet-lease contracts from airlines including Bulgaria's Fly2Sky, the Lithuanian ACMI provider GetJet and the Italian carrier Neos during the peak season.
