Jun 06, 2023 (newstodate): The Moldovan carrier HiSky's Romanian offspring, HiSky Europe, is drawing closer to realizing plans for establishing flights between Europe and the USA.
The carrier has thus now completed the first two of three stages in is application process with the US regulator FAA for an Exemption and a Foreign Air Carrier Permit allowing it to operate scheduled and charter flights between Europe and the US market with Airbus A321LR aircraft.
Expectations are now that the final approval will be granted within the coming two months, allowing the carrier to announce the opening of flights with one of its currently two Airbus A321neo LR aircraft.
The range of the new aircraft will allow the carrier to perform direct flights to US destinations with one en-route refueling stop at an airport in Western Europe, making HiSky Europe the first private airline to introduce direct flights from Romania to the USA.
Also contributing to the HiSky ambitions is the recent Air Services Agreement signed with the USA, aiming at liberalizing passenger and cargo air transport between the two markets, which will also allow HiSky Europe to operate direct flights between Chisinau in Moldova to the USA.
In October 2022 the carrier signed a long-term lease contract with ALC for delivery by March 2023 of two Airbus A321neoLR aircraft, allowing it to enter the long-haul flights market.
In the fleet of the privately-owned carrier are today five aircraft including one Airbus A319 and four Airbus A320 aircraft operating a spree of intra-European routes on scheduled as well as charter and wet-lease operations.
