Jun 07, 2023 (newstodate): -Many cargo figures increased year-on-year in May due to Qatar Airways cooperation and increased Asian capacity, even though discontinued operations between Sweden and the US cut North Atlantic cargo capacity, says Finnair Cargo in a comment on its May 2023 performance.
And May '23 did see the total cargo volumes on Finnair flights rising 13.1 percent, y-o-y, to 11,556 tonnes.
Thanks to the strategic cooperation with Qatar Airways, Finnair's volumes on flights to Doha continue to increase steeply to 1,580 tonnes, but volumes on the Asian lanes were also up by 32 percent to 6,238 tonnes.
Despite Finnair's ongoing redirection of its focus away from Asia to North America, volumes on the NAM routes dropped 56.6 percent, y-o-y, to 1,413 tonnes, while volumes on Finnair's European traffic rose seven percent to 2,239 tonnes.
In the first five months of 2023, Finnair has thus seen total cargo volumes still trailing 3.8 percent after 2022, totaling 52,844 tonnes.
Middle East volumes were up by 726 percent, y-o-y; Asian volumes increased by 24.6 percent, and NAM volumes were down 55.7 percent, y-o-y.
