Jun 12, 2023 (newstodate): Long in the making: the Faroese cargo carrier is now close to taking delivery of its first aircraft, a Boeing 757-200F aircraft.
The aircraft registered as SE-RLE left the paint shop at Taikoo Xiamen Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd on June 10, 2023, and is now awaiting final delivery.
FarCargo is to place the aircraft on the AOC of the Swedish carrier West Atlantic Sweden, partnering with FarCargo till the airline obtains an own AOC at a later stage.
FarCargo is part of the Bakkafrost Group, the country's leading exporter of fresh salmon to the US market.
FarCargo will fly Faroese salmon exports from Bakkafrost to New York Newark Airport, returning from the USA most probably via Denmark's Billund Airport with US exports, and next taking Faroese import shipments back to Vagar Airport.
The Boeing 757-200 entered service with American Airlines in 2001 and was stored for three years 2020-2023 before flying to Xiamen for cargo conversion in February 2023.
Originally, expectations were that the first flight by FarCargo would launch already by late October/early November 2022 - but plans were delayed as FarCargo rejected the acquisition of the Boeing 757-200 first sourced.
