May 01, 2023 (newstodate): Georgia's Kutaisi International Airport has every reason to be happy with Wizz Air.
Wizz Air was the first European LCC to enter the Georgian market from October 29, 2012, and opened its base at Kutaisi Airport on September 23, 2016, with one aircraft, adding a second aircraft at the airport on May 17, 2018, and a third from May 2019, operating flights between 27 European destinations and Kutaisi Airport by autumn 2019.
Starting from December 1, 2023, Wizz Air will again increase the number of aircraft based at Kutaisi International Airport to four, allowing for the opening of scheduled flights to Copenhagen Airport from December 1, 2023.
From June 1, 2023, Wizz Air will start operating flights from Kutaisi to Madrid, Brussels, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Poznan, and by the end of 2023 the number of European destinations served from the airport will increase to 30.
The first hybrid carrier to enter the Georgian market was however Latvia's airBaltic that opened scheduled flights between Riga and Tbilisi from May 3, 2006.
