May 25, 2023 (newstodate): Uzbekistan has eyes set on expanding the country's connectivity as well as the tourism streams, requiring an improved airport infrastructure serving the capital Tashkent.
To this effect, Uzbekistan Airports Joint Stock Company and Singapore's Changi Airports International have now inked an agreement to jointly develop Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport and plan for a future new airport at Tashkent.
Under the agreement, the Singapore-based company will provide consultancy and technical services in the management and operation of the existing airport.
Changi Airports International will also work with Uzbekistan Airports Joint Stock Company to work out a feasibility study for a coming new Tashkent Airport Project.
Tashkent International Airport is also seeing prospects for a further growth in air cargo; during January-April 2023, cargo volumes increased by 119 percent, y-o-y, to nearly 3,000 tonnes.
