May 22, 2023 (newstodate): The new Ukrainian cargo airline Supernova is providing a welcome boost to cargo at Latvia's Riga Airport.
Last week, the carrier made its first flight on the route between Riga and Rzeszow, in Poland, delivering seven 7 tonnes of international parcels of Nova Post customers from Riga International Airport to Rzeszow in Poland.
At Rzeszow, the parcels are reloaded for onward trucking to destinations in Ukraine.
Flight operations are provided by the Latvian carrier RAF-AVIA with one ATR72 converted cargo aircraft, and plans are so far for two weekly rotations on the route.
Established by the Ukrainian postal company Nova Poshta, Supernova obtained its AOC on January 6, 2023, as the first Ukrainian carrier in wartime, and plans are to launch cargo and postal flights from airports closest to Ukraine pending the time when operations at Ukrainian international airports Boryspil and Lviv are again feasible.
For a start, the carrier is to lease two AN-26 cargo aircraft, with two more aircraft to be added before the end of this year.
Managing the airline as CEO is Yaroslav Krasnozhon, formerly serving with the Turkish-owned Atlasjet Ukraine.
