May 01, 2023 (newstodate): Ostensibly without prior warning, Turkey has closed its airspace to the low-cost carrier FlyOne Armenia.
A subsidiary of Moldovan airline FlyOne and the first Armenian LCC, FlyOne Armenia started operations in December 2021 and now offers flights from Chisinau Airport to 14 destinations including Dublin, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London, Milan, Paris, Parma, and Verona, in eight European and Middle Eastern nations - in many cases reliant on flights through Turkish airspace.
-For reasons incomprehensible to us and without any visible grounds, the Turkish aviation authorities canceled the permission previously granted to the Flyone Armenia airline to operate flights to Europe through the Turkish airspace. Turkish aviation authorities implemented the cancellation without prior notification, putting our airline and our passengers in an uncomfortable situation, says Aram Ananyan, FlyOne Armenia's chairman of the Board of Directors in Armenian press.
Relations between Turkey and Armenia have remained stressed since the break of diplomatic relations in the 1990'ies over the unsolved issue of the alleged Armenian Genocide in 1915.
