May 02, 2023 (newstodate): After a nine-years hiatus, SAS is to return seasonal services on the route from Copenhagen Airport to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.
With the first flight planned for October 30, 2023, the carrier will be offering three weekly non-stop rotations with Airbus A350 aircraft during the winter season, pending government approvals.
The "new" route to Bangkok will be operated as part of SAS' Asian flights program, comprising also three weekly rotations on routes to Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai Putong.
As its first-ever Asian destination, SAS launched year-round flights with DC-6 aircraft to Bangkok in November 1949 in cooperation with Thai Airways.
The route was later reduced to winter-only services from April 7, 2013, and services were eventually closed down with the last flight on the route in March 2014, leaving the market to Thai Airways' daily services with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
