The first Boeing 737-800 converted freighter was delivered to Bluebird Nordic in October 2021 after undergoing cargo conversion at Taikoo Aircraft Engineering Company, followed by a C-check performed by FL Technics and repainting by MAAS Aviation, both at Lithuania's Kaunas Airport; the second aircraft followed in February 2022; the third followed in August 2022; the fourth aircraft joined the roster in October 2022 - and the fifth in March 2023.
Bluebird Cargo was set up in 2000, managed and co-owned by Thor Kjartansson together with other Icelandic investors.
In February 2005, the carrier was sold to the Icelandair Group; but in February 2011 Icelandair decided to divest of Bluebird Cargo that was placed with the two Icelandic banks.
After a few years, the company was acquired by BB Holding until the take-over of the stake by Lithuania's ASG in January 2020.
