May 22, 2023 (newstodate): This morning marks the return of flights by Ethiopian Airlines to Copenhagen Airport.
The carrier is now offering four weekly calls at Copenhagen Airport with Boeing 787-8/-9 aircraft.
The new service is operated as an extension of its route between Vienna and Addis Ababa, with 5th Freedom Rights to cover the leg connecting Vienna and Copenhagen.
Serving the Danish and Scandinavian air cargo markets since March 12, 2023, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo is also offering a weekly freighter service flying in from the carrier's main European hub at Liege and continuing directly to Addis Abeba, offering convenient late-Sunday onward transfer by connections to the airline's Asian and African destinations with early Monday arrivals.
According to industry sources, the scheduled Boeing 767 freighter flights are so far to continue through the coming summer schedule till October 23, 2023.
Ethiopian Airlines first launched services to Scandinavia in 2001 with flights to Copenhagen Airport, Denmark, but moved the Scandinavian service to Stockholm in Sweden from October 28, 2003, mainly to tap the large ethnic market in this country.
The carrier next extended the route with a further leg between Stockholm and Oslo from March 27, 2017, adding more Norwegian passengers and - not least - shipments of Norwegian seafood to the flight.
After suspension of services during the Covid-19 pandemic and the cautious reopening of flights between Addis Abeba and Sweden/Norway, the carrier reinstated daily flights on the route from June 1, 2022.
