May 02, 2023 (newstodate): DHL Express Denmark's has now commissioned its new parcel sorting terminal at Copenhagen Airport.
Yesterday, May 1, 2023, saw the first parcels landing on the sorting belts of the new terminal - the company's 22nd international hub to launch business in 2023.
The start of operations was earlier slated for Q4/2022 - but delayed during the Covid-19 situation.
Already in early 2018, DHL Express bought a 43,116 sq m land plot adjacent to its existing cargo handling terminal, earlier housing the facilities of Gate Gourmet.
In 2020, the Swedish logistics facilities developer Logistic Contractor won the contract with DHL Express Denmark to build the new 26,000 sq m airside cargo handling and parcel sorting terminal also comprising office space and a maintenance shop, with construction works starting in November 2020 and a topping-out ceremony on October 12, 2021.
The new terminal is designed to the capacity of sorting some 37,000 items per hour - five times the capacity at the earlier facility.
