May 09, 2023 (newstodate): Work at Oslo Airport to realize the long-nurtured hopes for a "Cool Hotel" to secure unbroken cool chain logistics for seafood exports is now almost completed.
Construction works started in late August 2022 targeting commissioning of the new facility to take place in May 2023 - which proved to be close to schedule: plans are now to open the Cool Hotel at an event to take place on June 6, 2023.
At that, all seafood shipments from Oslo Airport will be stored in temperature-controlled environments either at GPC, OSCC, or at the new Cool Hotel, securing year-round unbroken cool chain logistics for Norway's seafood exports at Oslo Airport.
A contract was signed on March 9, 2022, between Avinor and Oslo Seafood & Cargo Centre AS for construction of the Cool Hotel, allocating space for OSCC to start construction of the facility that will drastically reduce the need for icing of seafood shipments, which is especially crucial during warmer summer seasons.
The 4,200 m2 facility with a capacity of storing up to 90 pallets per hour will be operated on a neutral basis to allow utilization by all exporters in the country's important seafood industry.
