May 02, 2023 (newstodate): Cargo figures from Billund Airport covering April 2023 show a sustained drop in the first three months of the year.
In April, the airport handled a total of 4.274 tonnes, steeply down by 22.2 percent, y-o-y.
Comprised by the totals are 5,272 tonnes of import shipments, down 17.8 percent, while exports show a modest increase by 0.3 percent to 1,349 tonnes.
In Q1/2023, the airport is thus down 15.8 percent, y-o-y, to 23,029 tonnes including 5,540 tonnes of imports, down 21.3 percent and 17, 489 tonnes of exports, also down 13.9 percent.
The picture after the first month with Maersk Air Cargo at Billund Airport is thus little affected by the start of operations on the route Billund-Hangzhou-Bilund via Navoi from March 20, 2023, with three weekly rotations.
Anyhow, the airport's CEO Jan Hessellund remains upbeat on the prospects:
-Last year we handled some large special consignments at the airport, and with a market in general decline, the drop in volumes at Billund Airport makes perfect sense.
-Despite the modest volumes, Maersk Air Cargo has got off to a good start and is bringing new customers and new cargo to the airport, which we haven't had before, says Jan Hessellund.
