May 02, 2023 (newstodate): Continuously expanding its code-sharing capabilities, Latvia's airBaltic has announced a new agreement with Turkish Airlines.
Under the new code-share agreement taking effect from May 1, 2023, airBaltic and Turkish Airlines will add their respective airline codes on all flights between Riga and Istanbul to provide more flexibility to their passengers on direct flights between Turkey and Latvia.
airBaltic was first to launch flights between the two capitals from March 1, 2005, while Turkish Airlines followed suit from April 19, 2006.
The two carrier competed on the route until May 26, 2014, when airBaltic pulled out citing low demand and strong competition from its Turkish colleague.
While Turkish Airlines has remained on the route though temporarily suspended during the corona pandemic, airBaltic returned only from April 2, 2023, offering four weekly rotations.
