Apr 27, 2023 (newstodate): The state-owned Ukrainian company Antonov is showing interest in setting up a production plant in Brazil.
According to Brazilian media, Oleksandr Nykonenko and Victor Avdeyev, advisor and vice-president of the Antonov Company, held talks with the Secretariat for International Affairs of the State of São Paulo on April 11, 2023, to present Antonov's interest in developing activities in Brazil.
However, Antonov's interest in proceeding with the plans may be cooled by remarks by the Brazilian president about his stance on the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, raising doubts over the legitimacy of Russia's claim to Crimea and other occupied areas.
An official comment by Antonov now seeks to play down the heated press coverage:
-At present, the mass media of the Federal Republic of Brazil are sharing false information, that ANTONOV Company suspends the alleged negotiations about the alleged launch of the aircraft production in Brazil.
-Hereby ANTONOV Company officially states that it constantly conducts consultations with foreign partners from various countries, including the Federal Republic of Brazil, as part of its activities aiming to promote products and services into foreign markets.
-However, ANTONOV Company has not an authorized representative in Brazil and has not granted any persons, including law firms, any authority to represent the Company's interests.
-ANTONOV Company emphasizes its interest in the development of cooperation with the Federal Republic of Brazil in the field of aviation technologies and will appreciate the official initiatives of the Brazilian party concerning establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation.
