Apr 28, 2023 (newstodate): Historically, SAS has operated transatlantic flights from Scandinavia's capitals Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm, only.
This is changing now, thanks to the introduction of new narrow-body Airbus A321LR aircraft offering prospects of profitable operations on long-haul routes in thinner markets.
First to come was the opening on April 27, 2023, of the route from Denmark's Aalborg Airport, in northernmost Jutland, to New York JFK, followed by the opening today of flights on the new route from Sweden's Gothenburg Airport to New York JFK - in both cases with three weekly rotations.
