Apr 20, 2023 (newstodate): Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia over the country's war on Ukraine, Aeroflot is seeing its aircraft fleet shrinking in the last 12 months.
At the start of the period, the airline operated a fleet comprising 186 aircraft- and this is now down to 179 as Aeroflot is barred from acquiring new western-built aircraft.
Besides, sanctions also bar Russian airlines from obtaining maintenance and provision of spares and components for the western-built aircraft, causing the grounding of a growing part of the fleet.
In the fleet are now 22 Boeing 777-300ER, 37 Boeing 737-800, seven Airbus A350-900, 12 A330-300, 36 A321/A321neo, 64 A320/A320neo - and one Superjet 100, stuck on ground and the airline's only Russian-built aircraft.
Earlier, seven Super 100 aircraft were transferred to Aeroflot's subsidiary Rossiya Airlines.
Facing a future with no imminent easing of the bans and restrictions, the Aeroflot Group earlier this year announced a decision to acquire no less than 339 Russian-built aircraft, including 210 Irkut MC-21, 89 Sukhoi Superjet and 40 Tupolev Tu-214 aircraft, with deliveries starting already next year and running till 2030.
