Apr 21, 2023 (newstodate): Ryanair has again reiterated its intents to return to Ukrainian market once peace returns.
According to the carrier's CEO, Ryanair has plans for the launch of a batch of 30 routes serving Ukraine that is estimated to have a strong demand for air travel after the war when the country's infrastructure including roads and bridges may be severely demolished.
In 2021, Ryan was #3 among international airlines serving Ukraine, after Turkish Airlines and Wizz Air, with flights from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and plans for resumption of flights from Kherson.
Ryanair entered the Ukrainian market in 2018, while Wizz Air was the country's first low-cost carrier with the launch of services on July 18, 2008.
Ukraine and EU landed an Open Skies Agreement on October 12, 2021, and in response Ryanair announced the opening of 13 new routes from Ukrainian airports, bringing the number of routes to 90 and the weekly flights to some 230 during the summer 2022 schedule - which was then suspended as the Russian president launched the invasion of Ukraine.
