Apr 21, 2023 (newstodate): Together, the three international airport managed by the state-owned company Lithuanian Airports handled 4,835 tonnes of cargo in January-March 2023.
This was a slight increase by 0.65 percent, y-o-y - but an increase by 26.15 percent compared to pre-corona Q1/2019.
In Q1/23, volumes handled at Vilnius Airport were up by 4.72 percent, y-o-y, to 3,625 tonnes; the second-largest airport at Kaunas however handled only 1,208 tonnes which was down 10.02 percent, y-o-y, which was still up 56.8 percent on 2019 - and finally Palanga Airport contributed with only two tonnes -losing 4,480 percent compared to last year.
In April 2022, the Dutch company Royal HaskoningDHV emerged as the winner of a tender by Lithuanian Airports for a master plan analyzing and preparing for a long-term network development of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports.
The coming 10-years master plan expected to be finalized in summer 2023 will be worked out by analyzing the development potentials and alternatives of the three airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, as well as focusing on the specific strengths of the individual airports, routes expansion, and increasing the capacity of the passenger and cargo terminals.
