Apr 18, 2023 (newstodate): The fate of one AN-124 freighter parked at Toronto Pearson International Airport since February 24, 2022, may soon be settled.
The aircraft owned by the Russian Volga-Dnepr Group was taken into custody by the Canadian authorities after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has since generated a growing pile of unpaid parking charges.
The aircraft was actually not arrested, only prohibited from lifting off until the parking fees were paid.
Now the situation is changing as Canada has implemented a new sanctions package against Russia. The aircraft has thus now been formally arrested.
As part of the sanctions, the aircraft may now change ownership and is expected to be taken over by the Ukrainian state and put at the disposal of a Ukrainian operator.
