Apr 24, 2023 (newstodate): Israel will be a new - and easternmost - market for Icelandair in 2023.
The carrier had planned to launch its first-ever flights between Keflavík International Airport and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport on May 10, 2023, operating till the end of the summer '23 schedule on October 29, offering three weekly rotations on the route with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
Plans have now been revised, though; instead, the first flight will take place only on June 21, reportedly due to low demand in the early month of the summer season from the Icelandic side, while still high on the Israeli side of the calculation.
Besides aiming at increasing the tourist traffic between the two countries, the new route is also set up to attract Transatlantic interest, offering US travelers the option of flying to Israel via a transit stop in Iceland.
