Apr 28, 2023 (newstodate): Icelandair sees several positive signs for this year's performance in its Q1/2023 report, out now.
-The outlook for the year as a whole is good despite continued inflation and various challenges in the operating environment, says Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair CEO, in his comments.
-There are several positive signs. Flight availability in Icelandair's passenger route system increased by 38 percent, year-on-year; Icelandair carrier 664,000 passengers, up 57 percent on Q1/22. Seat utilization was the best since 2016, and bookings in the next six months are about 40 percent more than at the same time last year.
Less positive are comments on the airline's cargo development:
-The performance of our cargo operation was below projections due to unfavorable market conditions and irregularities in our cargo flight schedule.
-The market outlook for cargo remains challenging and our focus over the next weeks and months will be on restoring profitability, the statement reads.
