Apr 26, 2023 (newstodate): The new version of Russia's Superjet 100 is soon to take to the air, with a virgin flight planned for May 2023.
Branded RRJ-95NEW-100, the aircraft is designed with an all-Russian avionics system and other indigenous parts and components in response to the western sanctions banning exports of equipment to Russia.
Russia is also in the process of developing a new all-Russian power plant to drive the Superjet 100, replacing the Russian-French SaM146. This new engine is under certification and will be installed on the first two Superjet 100 NEW aircraft before the end of this year.
Facing a future with no imminent easing of the bans and restrictions, the Aeroflot Group earlier in 2023 announced a decision to acquire no less than 339 Russian-built aircraft, including 210 Irkut MC-21, 89 Sukhoi Superjet and 40 Tupolev Tu-214 aircraft, with deliveries starting already next year and running till 2030.
