Apr 11, 2023 (newstodate): While Russia's airspace remains closed to Finnair, Chinese carriers are benefiting from competitively shorter flights over Russia connecting China and Finland.
As a result, the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines is again increasing frequency on its route connecting Helsinki and Shanghai.
Served since June 28, 2019, Juneyao Airlines retained its traffic from Shanghai to Helsinki all through the corona pandemic period with one weekly rotation, increasing to two weekly rotations from December 30, 2022 - and now to four weekly rotations starting from the end of May '23.
Prior to the pandemic, Juneyao Airlines operated six weekly flights on the route - and is thus now slowly gaining full traction.
Also offering flights to Shanghai is Finnair that is however requiring three hours more in the air to cover the 3,200 km detour needed to bypass Russian airspace.
