Apr 27, 2023 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes handled at Iceland's Keflavik Airport were rising steeply in 2023.
In January-March 2023, a total of 15,368 tonnes of cargo was handled at Keflavik, an increase by 12.7 percent, y-o-y.
The growth is driven by volumes on freighter aircraft, totaling 10,985 tonnes and rising 23.4 percent, y-o-y, while belly cargo was only 4,383 tonnes, down 7.3 percent compared to Q1/2022.
On the freighter side, the growth at Keflavik Airport is boosted by Icelandair's introduction of two converted Boeing 767-300ERF aircraft, adding to the capacity of the Boeing 757-200F fleet.
On the passenger aircraft side, this summer will see 26 airlines offering flights to 83 destinations; in summer 2022 Keflavik was operated by 25 airlines with flights to 78 destinations - and in summer 2019, Keflavik Airport handled 26 airlines with flights to 71 destinations.
