Apr 12, 2023 (newstodate): Airlines from most western and other countries sanctioning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine are rerouting flights to avoid operations through Russian and Belarus airspace.
At the same time, airlines not participating in the general sanctions on Russia continue to reap competitive advantages including shorter flying times, less fuel burn and more cargo capacity on routes between Europe and Asia.
Benefiting from a "neutral" stand towards the Russian aggression is also Air India's route launched on March 1, 2023, between Delhi and Copenhagen.
The route is now served with three weekly rotations using Boeing 787 aircraft flying through Belarus and Russian airspace on its roughly seven hours' operation.
Paying Russia for overflight rights does not affect the carrier's CEO, Campbell Wilson, in an interview with The Telegraph.
