Mar 29, 2023 (newstodate): From the start of this month, Swissport has a new CEO in Finland: Mikko Goos.
Mr Goos moves to the new position on the background of nearly 11 years with Swissport since September 2013 - first with Swissport in France, and later in various capacities with Swissport Finland, taking up the CEO position from Swissport Head of Cool Cargo and Ground Handling from June 2021.
Mr Goos thus succeeds Markus Vahtera who has also served with Swissport Finland since September 2012 and in the CEO-seat since June 2021. He is now to take up a new position outside aviation as Business Area Director at Nobina Finland.
2023 has become a crucial year for Swissport Finland, as Swissport decided to halt all ground handling business at Helsinki Airport after losing its contract with Finnair, its launch customer in the market.
Accounting for about one-third of Swissport's business in Finland, the company's ground handling business comprised passenger services, ramp and baggage handling, and de-icing services.
In February 2023, Finnair instead contracted Aviator Airport Services to provide ramp handling for all Finnair’s operations at Helsinki Airport, expanding the existing cooperation between the two parties for handling of Finnair's narrow-body fleet since 2021.
Swissport is, however, still active in cargo operations at Helsinki Airport.
Swissport's large-scale cargo operations comprise the management of Finnair's COOL Nordic Cargo Hub since 2019 in addition to the Swissport-owned cargo handling operations for multiple airline customers.
Swissport will also continue investing in its Finnish lounge business as well as in fueling services, which it started up in October 2022.
