Mar 08, 2023 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport has leapfrogged into 2023 with total cargo volumes continuing on a steep growth trajectory.
After seeing volumes in 2022 growing by 24 percent, y-o-y, to 3,443 tonnes, the positive development is continuing in 2023 with volumes up by 14 percent to 522 tonnes in January-February 2023.
At 21 percent, the growth was even higher in January, while February saw an increase by six percent.
The increase in 2023 is primarily seen in the volumes of mail where the growth by 86 percent, y-o-y, during the two months reflects the return from January 31, 2022, of PostNord Sweden that has reinstated a nightly flight on weekdays from Stockholm Arlanda to Jonkoping Airport, further expanded since May 2, 2022, as PostNord now carries mail also on the return flight from Jonkoping to Stockholm Arlanda.
Cargo on ad-hoc operations, 43 tonnes, also showed a modest increase, while volumes of cargo on scheduled flights, 274 tonnes, dropped by seven percent in 2023.
