Mar 09, 2023 (newstodate): Norway’s Avinor Air Navigation Services is increasingly implementing remotely controlled ATC towers at its airports.
Last month, another two regional airports were added to the list already comprising 11 of Avinor's regional airports around the country including the airports at Roest, Vardoe, Hasvik, Berlevag, Mehamn, Roeros, Roervik, Namsos, Svolvaer, Sogndal and Foerde. And in 2024, the airports at Molde, Sandnessjoeen and Leknes will join.
At the center of this airport traffic management system - and the world's largest - is the Remote Towers Center at Bodoe offering the possibility to increase the opening hours of smaller airports, ensuring better access for ambulance flights and business development alike for small Arctic communities where airports often have to keep closed for parts of the day, due to lack of staff.
Avinor has implemented the Ninox Remote Towers platform together with the Kongsberg Group and Indra.
