Mar 06, 2023 (newstodate): For unknown reasons, Moldova's national carrier Air Moldova is left with only one aircraft in operation.
By the end of 2022, the airline's fleet comprised two Airbus A319, one Airbus A320, and one Airbus A321 aircraft - but today only the Airbus A321 seems to be still in service, while the A320 and one Airbus A319 remain grounded at Montpellier Airport, France, with the second A319 stuck in Verona, Italy.
To compensate partly for the capacity crunch, the carrier has contracted one Boeing 737-700NG from the Greek company Lumiwings on a short-term basis starting from March 4, 2023.
Speculations are that the carrier may have decided to keep the aircraft out of Moldova as a precautionary measure in case of increased Russian pressure that has earlier forced Wizz Air to suspend all flights to the country.
Alternatively, sources also indicate that the lessors of the aircraft may have required the aircraft to be kept out of Moldova due to debt issues.
