Mar 03, 2023 (newstodate): Libya is keen to see EU reopening it airspace to the country's commercial airlines.
On December 11, 2014, EU published a revised Black List including Libya; all airlines registered in Libya, without exception, were placed on the no-fly list prohibiting them from entering any airport in the EU after a series of attacks on Libya's main international airport and a general security threat.
Now, the Libyan Government of National Accord has stepped up its efforts to urge the EU Commission to lift the ban on its airlines, stating that rapid plans and procedures that will enable the EU airspace to open to Libyan airline companies are now being discussed.
Libya proposes that the aim is first to allow Libyan commercial carriers into Italian airspace, with the opening of the full EU airspace to follow at a later date.
