Mar 01, 2023 (newstodate): Less than 10 years after their first flights in 2013, two Boeing 787 aircraft are currently being scrapped by the Irish company EirTrade Aviation.
The company will recover the spare parts for remarketing to airlines and MROs after a recertification process.
In both cases, the first and only operator was the long haul airline Norwegian that took to the air on 30 May 30, 2013, but folded wings in bankruptcy on January 14, 2021.
When Norwegian collapsed and entered its long journey towards reconstruction, the airline operated a fleet of 37 Boeing 787 including eight Boeing 787-8 and 29 Boeing 787-9.
The two aircraft now being cannibalized were leased from the British lessor DP Aircraft.
