Feb 08, 2023 (newstodate): The aviation sector of Estonia's Tallinn Airport has been operating at a loss for the last three years, forcing the Board to raise airline charges.
-The aviation sector at Tallinn Airport has been operating at a loss for the past three years, with the decline beginning during the coronavirus pandemic. The company cannot afford for this trend to continue, hence the decision to increase airport fees, says Tallinn Airport Chairman of the Board, Riivo Tuvike, in an interview with Estonian media.
The decision to raise airline charges have not come down well with one of the airport's second-largest carrier Ryanair that has responded by axing flights on seven of its 16 routes at the airport, as well as filing a complaint with the Estonian Competition Authority.
Tallinn Airport is however still not the most expensive airport in the Baltic region, measured in charges per tonne MTOW for an aircraft operation: 8.74 euro at Vilnius Airport, 15.06 at Kaunas Airport, 10.54 at Palanga Airport, 2.05 at Riga Airport, and 7.5 at Tallinn Airport.
