Feb 27, 2023 (newstodate): In expectation of a strong surge in demand during the coming summer season, SAS - like many other airlines - is sourcing more external capacity.
It has now been confirmed that SAS is indeed to wet-lease eight Airbus A320 aircraft from the Latvian charter and ACMI carrier SmartLynx, to be based at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with operations starting in April and planned till the end of October 2023.
Other sources claim that SAS is also to wet-lease two Airbus A330-300 aircraft from the Portuguese ACMI carrier Hi-Fly for long-haul flights during the summer schedule.
Earlier, it was announced that SAS will be wet-leasing three Boeing 737-800 aircraft from the Danish carrier Jettime.
In summer 2022, SAS was also operating five Airbus A220-300 aircraft on a wet-lease contract with the Latvian carrier airBaltic, but so far it remains unknown if this cooperation will become activated again this summer
