Feb 03, 2023 (newstodate): The Russian carrier UVT Aero, based in Kazan, is preparing to introduce a "new" aircraft type in the fleet: the TU-214.
Facing the effects from western sanctions after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia is forced to steer away from western built aircraft to focus instead on own commercial aircraft production.
Recently, the Aeroflot Group proudly announced a decision to acquire no less than 339 Russian-built aircraft, including 210 Irkut MC-21, 89 Sukhoi Superjet and 40 Tupolev Tu-214 aircraft, with deliveries starting already next year and running till 2030.
UVT Aero is currently operating a fleet of eight Bombardier CRJ200 aircraft on domestic routes, but the carrier is poised to be among the Russian airlines to re-introduce the TU-214 already by next year.
UVT Aero is now recruiting 10 cockpit crews to man the first two TU-214 aircraft slated for delivery in October 2014, and another batch of 10 cockpit crews will be added as the carrier takes in another two TU-214 in September 2025 - if plans hold..
Today, the special flight squad "Russia" belonging to the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation is the only Russian operator of the TU-214, although in a special version and not for commercial transportation.
A total of 89 aircraft were built, with the first flight in 1989, but the aircraft fell out of grace, losing ground to western-built aircraft offering better characteristics.
