Feb 23, 2023 (newstodate): While the everlasting friendship between Russia and China is ceremoniously hailed by the two countries, unsolved issues remain in civil aviation.
The President of Russia's Airline Users Union has thus complained to Russia's Minister of Transport that due to sanctions, China does not allow entry to half of Russian airlines' aircraft.
Citing EU sanctions on Russia, China has placed an embargo on flights into China with Russian aircraft registered in Bermuda and Ireland and leased from Western aircraft lessors.
According to the complaint filed with the Russian ministry, this comprises some 480 aircraft, about half of the Russian airlines' fleets.
Also, about 170 other commercial aircraft operated by Russian airlines are sanctioned by the USA and banned from servicing by Chinese airports.
The Union is seeking a solution to these issues before the start of the coming summer 2023 program; prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, the scheduled air traffic between Russia and China amounted to about 400 weekly rotations, of which 130-140 were operated by Russian carriers.
