Feb 21, 2023 (newstodate): The strategic partnership between Finnair and its oneworld partner Qatar Airways for operations between the three Nordic capitals and Doha has come off to a promising start, meeting the targets set for the venture.
The program signed in August 2022 for joint daily flights operated by Finnair under the "strategic partnership" between Qatar Airways and Finnair was launched on November 1, 2022, with flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm, and flights from Helsinki from December 15, 2022.
The agreement also opened up for Finnair and Qatar Airways to explore opening services between "another European destination" and Doha, which tentatively ignited hopes for adding Oslo to the program.
The plans for opening "another European destination" under the strategic partnership are, however, now off the table.
In connection with the recent results' announcement, Finnair's CEO Topi Manner revealed that the continuous reopening and expansion of Finnair's international route network including, notably, the return of traffic on the Asian routes, left little available aircraft capacity for adding a fourth destination in the cooperation with Qatar Airways.
