Feb 24, 2023 (newstodate): Plans for launch of FarCargo, a new cargo carrier in the Faroe Islands, are still very much alive - but suffering from teething troubles..
According to Faroese media, FarCargo has abandoned plans for take-over of its first freighter aircraft and is now sourcing its replacement, also a Boeing 757 converted freighter but a newer aircraft.
The first option, slated for delivery already by December 2022, was a converted Boeing 757-200F aircraft, last serving with the Russian airline Aviastar from November 2018 and later parked at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport since March 2022.
When sourced and delivered, the aircraft with Danish registration will be placed on the AOC of West Atlantic Sweden, partnering with FarCargo till the airline obtains an own AOC at a later stage
Serving its primary owner Bakkafrost, FarCargo will carry Faroese seafood to the US market as well as to Israel, reportedly aiming at up to five weekly US-bound flights and one weekly operation to Israel.
