Feb 21, 2023 (newstodate): The Latvian ACMI, charter and cargo operator SmartLynx Airlines has obtained green lights for Australian operations.
SmartLynx Airlines has thus received an Australian Foreign Air Transport Operator Certificate issued by the Australian Civil Aviation Authority, allowing the carrier to launch flights to, from, and within Australia.
The certificate authorizes the start of operations in Australia with Airbus A330 aircraft, and the company plans to land certification also for other aircraft types in its fleet including Airbus A320, A321, and Boeing 737.
With about one-third of the market, SmartLynx Airlines is Europe's largest ACMI service provider today operating also in North America, Asia, and Africa, based on Air Operator Certificates in Latvia, Estonia, and Malta.
Currently operating a fleet comprising 55 aircraft, SmartLynx Airlines plans to increase to 65 aircraft by the end of this year, including 29 Airbus A320, six Airbus A330-300, eight Airbus A321, 13 Airbus A321F, and nine Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Based on LatCharter and since September 2019 a member of the Avia Solutions Group, the carrier today generates less than three percent of its revenues in the Latvian home market, and only between six and seven percent in the Baltic markets including also Estonia and Lithuania.
-Today, most of our revenues come from the EU countries, with UK, Germany and the Benelux at the top, but at the same time we are a global company, expanding our operations outside the borders of Europe, SmartLynx CEO Zygimantas Surintas said in a recent Latvian interview.
-Looking forward, SmartLynx will seek to grow its revenues outside Europe by 10-15 percent in 2023, and MEA, Asian and African markets are also in the focus.
