Dec 11, 2023 (newstodate): Scandinavia is a significant market for Ethiopian Airlines, today served with flights to all three capital airports.
According to Air Service One, the routes to both Oslo and Stockholm are among the top-10 routes served in winter 2023/24.
Measured in departing ASK, the route to Oslo is actually #2 followed by Stockholm as #3, and only overtaken by London Heathrow on top of the list comprising 19 destinations served by Ethiopian Airlines in this W'23 schedule
Ethiopian Airlines first launched services to Scandinavia in 2001 with flights to Copenhagen Airport, Denmark, but moved the Scandinavian service to Stockholm in Sweden from October 28, 2003, mainly to tap into the large ethnic market in this country.
The carrier next extended the route with a further leg between Stockholm and Oslo from March 27, 2017, adding more Norwegian passengers and - not least - shipments of Norwegian seafood to the flight.
Finally, flights from Addis Ababa were returned to Copenhagen Airport from May22, 2023 as an extension of its route between Vienna and Addis Ababa, with 5th Freedom Rights to cover the leg connecting Vienna and Copenhagen.
Both Oslo and Stockholm are served with seven weekly flights, while the carrier operates the route to Copenhagen with four weekly rotations.
In addition to the passenger services, Ethiopian Airlines also launched freighter operations at Oslo Airport in 2020, flying in from Liege and continuing to Seoul, South Korea, before touching down at Addis Abeba, today served with three weekly operations.
