Dec 15, 2023 (newstodate): The Moldovan carrier HiSky's Romanian offspring, HiSky Europe has obtained green lights for entering the US market.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted HiSky the Foreign Air Carrier Permit, securing the carrier the position as the only airline in Romania with the right to operate scheduled passenger flights to any destination in the United States.
Following this authorization, HiSky is now preparing to launch its first direct transoceanic flights from Romania after more than 20 years.
The carrier is now due to take delivery of its first Airbus A330-200 aircraft in Bucharest on December 18, 2023.
The range of the new aircraft will allow the carrier to perform direct flights to US destinations with one en-route refueling stop at an airport in Western Europe, making HiSky Europe the first private airline to introduce direct flights from Romania to the USA.
Also contributing to the HiSky ambitions is the recent Air Services Agreement signed with the USA, aiming at liberalizing passenger and cargo air transport between the two markets, which will allow HiSky Europe to operate direct flights between Chisinau in Moldova and the USA.
In October 2022 the carrier signed a long-term lease contract with ALC for delivery by March 2023 of two Airbus A321neoLR aircraft.
In the fleet of the privately-owned carrier are today five aircraft including one Airbus A319, four Airbus A320 aircraft and two Airbus A321LR aircraft operating a spree of intra-European routes on scheduled as well as charter and wet-lease operations.
