Dec 01, 2023 (newstodate): By the end of October 2023, the Swedish charter carrier Novair became part of history.
The company landed as an empty company with heaps of cash and 95 percent of the staff on to good jobs in the industry - but instead of the planned smooth procedure of closing down as a solvent company, the company eventually found it necessary to file for bankruptcy.
-We had not anticipated the costs of redelivery to the lessor of the two Airbus A320neo to run so high as it turned out, says Lars Thuesen, owner of Jet Nordic Group that is also behind the Danish charter and ACMI carrier Jettime.
-I would have just loved to see the survival of Novair. But considering the rising commitments from the two leased aircraft, totally outside our control, this proved to be unfeasible, also due to the lack of cooperation on the side of the lessor.
-Several potential partners aired interest in taking over the aircraft, but without an agreement with the lessor over the redelivery costs we were eventually forced to realize that this was the end of the line.
-An inelegant, utterly frustrating and unnecessary ending - but so be it, says Mr Thuesen.
