Dec 15, 2023 (newstodate): Georgia is growing in importance as a new market for tourism, and among the country's airports, Kutaisi International Airport is seeing a dynamic growth in passenger volumes in 2023.
Foreseeing a sustained growth in traffic, Kutaisi will need a master plan to steer investments and developments, and IATA has won a tender for designing a 5, 10, and 15 years plan for the airport.
IATA is now expected to deliver the master plan within the coming six months.
Today, Kutaisi Airport operates one 2,500 m runway and has the capacity of serving up to 600 passengers.
So far, the airport plans to add one more runway and start establishing a new cargo facility.
Five airlines are currently operating at the airport with flights to 35 destinations in 18 countries.
Among these operators, Wizz Air added a third aircraft to its base at Kutaisi Airport, operating regular flights to Madrid, Brussels, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Poznan.
Wizz Air launched flights at Kutaisi Airport in 2012 with one Airbus A320, adding a second aircraft to the base in 2018.
And from December 1, 2023, Wizz Air has added even a fourth aircraft to its base, as well as launching flights from Kutaisi to Copenhagen Airport.
