Dec 04, 2023 (newstodate): In 2023, Denmark's Billund Airport may come close to last year's full-year cargo volumes.
In the first 11 months of this year, the airport has been handling 69,166 tonnes of cargo, which is trailing behind Jan-Nov 2022 by only 2.7 percent.
In Jan-Nov '23, volumes include 52,449 tonnes of exports, down 2.9 percent, y-o-y, and 16,717 tonnes of imports, also down 2.1 percent, y-o-y.
To get even with full-year volumes in 2022, the gap is now only 7,708 tonnes, which comes close to the volumes handled at Billund Airport in November 2023 amounting to 7,222 tonnes after increasing by 13.3 percent, y-o-y.
The current record in cargo volumes is still held by 2021 when the airport handled 77,150 tonnes of cargo, rising 14.9 percent, y-o-y.
Driving the growth in cargo at Billund Airport is clearly Maersk Air Cargo that has added a third Boeing 767 freighter to its base now operating six weekly flights to Hangzhou in China, alongside a fourth aircraft serving the ad-hoc market.
