Nov 01, 2023 (newstodate): An all-Boeing aircraft operator, Russia's largest charter carrier Azur Air has a third of its fleet stuck on the ground due to sanctions.
Out of the airline's 22 aircraft, only 14 are now in service, while also hit by the export ban on Boeing spares and engines.
Four of the aircraft still flying are owned by the carrier, while the other 10 are on lease from Russian lessors.
The eight grounded aircraft are leased from Western lessors, and the carrier is thus unable to operate them on international routes.
To remedy the situation, Azur Air is now seeking maintenance of the aircraft at Moscow Vnukovo airport, shipping engines for repair to Iran that is also under US sanctions.
In June 2023, Azur Air closed down its base at St Petersburg, sacking a work force of 23 cockpit crew and 108 cabin crew members, equalling 12 percent of its entire work force.
