Nov 13, 2023 (newstodate): Norse Atlantic Airways may be plotting to add a unique destination to its map: Maud Island, in the Antarctica.
According to the media Ishron Aviation, Norse plans for a flight from a Norwegian airport to Maud Island, requiring at least one en-route technical stop.
Still unconfirmed, the flight would be requested by Norwegian Polar Institute to fly provisions and a new research team to the Troll Research Station at Queen Maud Land, a year-round research station since 2005 manned by up to 70 researchers.
Earlier, Icelandair has been performing a series of Boeing 757 flights for the Norwegian Polar Institute between Oslo and the Troll research center for exchanges of staff at the research center.
If carried through, this would be the first landing in the Antarctica with a Boeing 787 aircraft.
